CANDLE CARE
Very few people are aware that there is a correct way to burn a candle and for many years I was one of these people until I worked as a party consultant for a well known candle company when my children were small. I am going to share this knowledge with you so you can go on to burn our candles correctly to get the most out of our products.
• Trim the wick of your candle to 5mm, this will give your candle a cleaner brighter burn and help reduce smoke stains on your containers.
• Keep your candle away from draughts as this can increase soot and give off a smoke-like scent which is not what you’re after.
• Let the wax pool reach across the top of the container before you extinguish it, this can take several hours but is worth it as it helps stop a tunnelling effect down the middle of your candle.
• Always use a candle snuffer or spoon to extinguish your candle to ensure it is properly out, this helps prevent sparks and hot wax flying around. Always double check a candle is fully extinguished and not still smouldering before leaving a room.
• Extinguish and discard the last 5mm of wax at the bottom of your candle to ensure the container does not get too overheated.
CANDLE SAFETY
We always value our customers safety so we have put together some candle safety advice for you;
• Never leave a burning candle unattended.
• Be mindful of where you place your candles. Always ensure all your candles are placed on a heat resistant surface and in a proper stable holder so they won’t fall over or spill melted wax.
• Allow sufficient room above a burning candle and never place a burning candle under a shelf as the heat it conducts can cause a fire.
• Position your candle away from curtains and furnishings that could be flammable and keep out of draughts. Also be aware of your own safety around a lit candle, you don’t want to set fire to your clothes or hair by leaning over them.
• Place your candles out of reach and away from children and pets.
• Always allow at least 10cm between your burning candles.
• Never touch the candle container or move a candle when it is lit, always extinguish it and allow it to cool down and reset before moving.
• Keep the melted wax pool free from debris, like burnt matches etc.
• Our candles should not be burnt for more than 4 hours at a time.
• Don’t leave a candle burning in an empty room always extinguish it before you leave.
• Never go to sleep with a candle still burning and never leave a candle or oil burner alight in a child’s bedroom.
• Always use a candle snuffer or spoon to extinguish your candle, this is safer than blowing them out and stops sparks or hot wax flying around. Never use water to put out a candle. Double check your candles are out before leaving the room to ensure they are not still smouldering.
• Discontinue the use of your candle when there is 5mm of wax left at the bottom of the container.
